I built and ran this website between 2000 and 2001, combining passion for popular music and programming. It was listed by MTV's now defunct MusicNewswire as one of the then nascent web's top twenty sources, alongside Billboard and VH1. The most exciting part of it — for a 13/14-year-old excited by new music — was receiving scores of pre-release CDs from record companies. The entire project was written entirely from scratch (frameworks and libraries were not the norm back then!) in PHP linking to a MySQL database, with HTML as well as a little CSS and JavaScript for the frontend; the code is available here.

Sampled Part 2
12 March 2001 | 0:00:00 GMT/UTC

Sampled Part 2 is the second album in the 'Sampled' series, this edition is Digging Deeper. The album opens with Ma Quale Idea by Pino D' Angio - no, I haven't heard of it either but it was sampled on Madison Avenue's Don't Call Me Baby. Track three is an obvious sample, Bob Marley's Sun Is Shining, sampled by Martin Ottesen (Funkstar Deluxe). It is one of the most 'well-known' tracks on the album, along with Spandau Ballet's Chant Number One sampled by Rui da Silva on Touch Me.

The album also features tracks from Dream Academy (Life In A Northern Town, sampled by Dario G on Sunschyme), Bill Withers (I Can't Write Left Handed, sampled by Fatboy Slim on Demons), Bessie Jones (Sometimes, sampled on Honey by Moby) and Michael Jackson whose Shoo Be Doo Da Day was sampled on Because of You by Skanty Sandwich.

Good idea, maybe the 'sampled on' tracks should be included, ideal for the music enthusiast.
