I built and ran this website between 2000 and 2001, combining passion for popular music and programming. It was listed by MTV's now defunct MusicNewswire as one of the then nascent web's top twenty sources, alongside Billboard and VH1. The most exciting part of it — for a 13/14-year-old excited by new music — was receiving scores of pre-release CDs from record companies. The entire project was written entirely from scratch (frameworks and libraries were not the norm back then!) in PHP linking to a MySQL database, with HTML as well as a little CSS and JavaScript for the frontend; the code is available here.

U2 Confirm New Single
7 November 2001 | 9:00:00 GMT/UTC

U2U2 have confirmed details of their next single. Walk On will be released on 19 November. It is the fourth single to be taken from the band's current album, All That You Can't Leave Behind — which has now sold over a million copies in the UK.

The video for Walk On was shot by Jonas Akerlund in Rio de Janeiro. It contains footage of Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, to whom the track is dedicated on the album. This dedication caused All That You Can't Leave Behind to be banned by the Burmese authorities. Ownership of the album in Burma is punishable by up to twenty years in jail.

The single is available on two CDs and DVD formats. The first CD includes a live versions of Where The Streets Have No Name (live from Boston, 6 June) and Stay (live from Toronto, 25 May). The second CD includes an acoustic version of the band's recent single, Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of, and Nigel Godrich's remix of Walk On. The DVD includes four live clips of the Elevation tour recorded in Boston (6 June) and the Walk On video.
