It was announced today that the forty-fourth Grammy Awards will take place on 27 February 2002 at Los Angeles' Staples Center. The announcement was made by Recording Academy president/CEO Michael Greene.

For the twenty-ninth consecutive year the show will be broadcast across the Unites States by CBS.

"We are so pleased to be here in our hometown with our spectacular partners — CBS, Staples Center and the city of Los Angeles — to announce that the forty-fourth show will be in our backyard," said Michael Greene.

L.A. mayor Jim Hahn said that the city of Los Angeles was looking forward to hosting the Grammys for the fourth consecutive year.

Nominees for the forty-fourth Grammy Awards will be announced in January 2002.
