I built and ran this website between 2000 and 2001, combining passion for popular music and programming. It was listed by MTV's now defunct MusicNewswire as one of the then nascent web's top twenty sources, alongside Billboard and VH1. The most exciting part of it — for a 13/14-year-old excited by new music — was receiving scores of pre-release CDs from record companies. The entire project was written entirely from scratch (frameworks and libraries were not the norm back then!) in PHP linking to a MySQL database, with HTML as well as a little CSS and JavaScript for the frontend; the code is available here.

Add N To (X) - Add Insult To Injury
8 October 2000 | 0:00:00 GMT/UTC

Add Insult To Injury is the third album from London three-piece Add N To (X) - the name is apparently taken from a "computer command that creates an unknown electronic third force"(!).

Twelve tracks beginning with Adding N To X, an short instrumental track based around a short keyboard/synth riff. Electronic pop? Track three, You Must Create sounds better, a bit slower with a strong bass line. Some distorted vocals come in after a minute or so.

Kingdom of Shades - short riff, electronic sounds. Monster Bobby, sounds as if it's a football anthem. A 'marching' beat and vocals singing 'Na Na Na, Na Na' with some blokes shouting over the top - great.

Plug Me In is the first single to be released from the album, a very repetetive song, good. B.P. Perino begins very quietly, a slow eerie track. Ending the album is The Regent Is Dead, the best track on the album - brilliant.

Overall, a strange album, it features some good tracks and some not so good tracks. Unfortunately most of the tracks sound similar - short riff, distorted vocals. Have a listen.

3/5
