I built and ran this website between 2000 and 2001, combining passion for popular music and programming. It was listed by MTV's now defunct MusicNewswire as one of the then nascent web's top twenty sources, alongside Billboard and VH1. The most exciting part of it — for a 13/14-year-old excited by new music — was receiving scores of pre-release CDs from record companies. The entire project was written entirely from scratch (frameworks and libraries were not the norm back then!) in PHP linking to a MySQL database, with HTML as well as a little CSS and JavaScript for the frontend; the code is available here.

Victoria Beckham - Victoria Beckham
29 September 2001 | 16:27:06 GMT/UTC
Release: 1 January 1970 | 0:00:00 (Virgin)

Victoria Beckham's new logoShe hasn't had a huge amount of luck in the singles charts recently. Her latest single, and opener to this album, was beaten to the top by a novelty European act, an animated builder, a Michael Jackson cover, Shaggy and Kylie Minogue. Yes, it entered at a disappointing (for pop at least) number six. It's not as if she was behind more talented artists with better songs, is it?

This is Victoria Beckham's debut long-player. It is the same as all the other pop going round at the moment, nothing special. Not Such An Innocent Girl is probably the most radio-friendly track on the album and an obvious single choice.

You get the impression that she is just following the pop crowd of Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez et al. I'm sure you can just buy one compilation album featuring this sort of stuff and you would be 'sorted'.
