I built and ran this website between 2000 and 2001, combining passion for popular music and programming. It was listed by MTV's now defunct MusicNewswire as one of the then nascent web's top twenty sources, alongside Billboard and VH1. The most exciting part of it — for a 13/14-year-old excited by new music — was receiving scores of pre-release CDs from record companies. The entire project was written entirely from scratch (frameworks and libraries were not the norm back then!) in PHP linking to a MySQL database, with HTML as well as a little CSS and JavaScript for the frontend; the code is available here.

Lee Griffiths - Northern Songs
31 December 1969 | 18:59:59 GMT/UTC

Lee Griffiths was born and raised in Manchester. When he was fifteen he was expelled from school because he punched a teacher who was disrespectful about his mother. He bought a cheap guitar and taught himself a few riffs, later joining DBX for four years.

Northern Songs is Lee's debut album, twelve tracks produced by Lee and Trevor Horn. Most of the tracks are acoustic/guitar based. The album has been produced well, even though most tracks are acoutsic/guitar based we do hear different instruments and different styles.

The standout tracks are Get On With Your Life, Morning After, It's A Shame and Crazy.

Very good album - worth adding to your collection.
